Sherry was born in Cranbrook, BC and was raised in
Vancouver. She graduated from
Magee High School.

Her first degree was a Bachelor of Home Economics from UBC
followed by a Permanent Basic Teachers’ Certificate.
She taught high school in Burnaby until the birth of her first child.

Sherry, her husband and two daughters moved to Chilliwack in
the mid 1960’s where Sherry taught night school and started an Interior
Design Consulting business.

Her third
child, a son, was born in Chilliwack.

Sherry is very involved in community affairs.
She co-chaired the BC Centennial celebrations committee in 1971, was
involved in the Chamber of Commerce and helped promote tourism.

From 1979-1983, Sherry was the Executive Director of the
Chilliwack Arts Council and raised $1 million. This was used to create a
350-seat performing arts theatre and space for the visual arts and music in a
renovated 30,000 square foot facility.

Sherry achieved a Diploma in Business Administration in 1984
to support her work with non-profit organizations as well as small
businesses.

Sherry was elected to Chilliwack Council in the fall of 1983.
She served on most council committees.
She chaired the Lower Mainland Municipal Association, sat on the
Union of BC Municipalities Board and participated on several committees for
the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
She chaired the Fraser Valley Regional Library Board for 4 years.

Sherry was appointed to the BC Canada Day Committee by the
Secretary of State in 1985 and
chaired that committee until 1991.

In 1990, Sherry’s marriage ended and she established
Sherry
Baker & Associates.
Through
her business, she has provided support to many organizations, individuals,
businesses and groups throughout the Lower Mainland.
Part of her work included doing the public consultation and writing
the Preliminary Health Plans for each municipality in the eastern Fraser
Valley (5 in total).

Sherry has
been a member of Rotary International since 1992. She was President of
the Rotary Club of Langley-Sunrise in 2001-2002.

Sherry earned a Master of Arts degree in Applied Behavioral
Science in 1994.

In 1995, Sherry was hired as the Executive Director of Ishtar
Transition Housing Society in Langley.
She
was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the society as well as
raising $800,000 to build a new, state-of-the-art Transition House which
opened in 1998.

Sherry serves on many boards and committees, locally,
regionally, provincially and nationally. She has been the chair of the
Community Social Services Employers' Association; Chair of the Fraser Valley
Regional Library; Chair of the Lower Mainland Municipal Association; Public
Appointee on the Board of Registration for Social Workers and is currently
the Township appointee on the Joint Family Court Committee for Surrey
Courthouse.

In 2003, Sherry took on a part-time contract to lead
Aldergrove Neighbourhood Services through a major transition.
She worked with them until January of 2005.

In 2004, Sherry left Ishtar to co-lead Collingwood
Neighbourhood House in Vancouver.
She
left Collingwood in 2005 to pursue her consulting work and to prepare to run
for the Township of Langley council.

Sherry lives in a townhouse in Walnut Grove and will spend the
rest of her active life making a difference in the Langley community.

Sherry has two daughters and a son and all three are
professionals. Each of them is married and has two children.
Sherry thoroughly enjoys spending time with each of her six
grandchildren and participating in their lives.
They range in age from 1 to 15 – 3
boys and 3 girls.
